LNG opportunities in the Philippines 2021

Wednesday 26 May 08:30 - 10:00 CEST

Market: Philippines

Info

LNG is becoming an important new element in the energy supply of the Philippines. BW LNG of Norway and FirstGen, a Filipino powerhouse, recently signed a five-year contract for an FSRU that will supply FirstGen’s powerplants in the Luzon region (the Northern and most populous part of the country). The reason the Philippines is switching to LNG is the depletion of its national gas field, the Malampaya. Production has started declining and is estimated to run out in 2027. Several other Filipino private companies are working on LNG projects.

The energy market in the Philippines is characterised by being driven by the private sector, and the country has operated a spot-market for electricity since 2006.
As the country switches to LNG, many possibilities may open for Norwegian companies, for instance in small-scale LNG projects.
Further information of the energy sector in Philippines including “Energy Annual Report” is given on the Department of Energy’s (DOE) homepage .
The aims of the LNG seminar are:

  • Present gas and LNG development in the Philippines
  • Get an overview of the market and identify market opportunities
  • Connect Filipino and Norwegian interests
  • Increased knowledge for strategic decision towards the market
  • Understand local requirement, regulation, and restrictions and how to do business in the Philippines
