Floating Offshore Wind UK 2019Wind energy
Join NORWEP for a delegation visit to Aberdeen in connection with Renewable UK and Scottish Renewables' Floating Offshore Wind UK 2019 conference and exhibition, UK’s dedicated floating offshore wind event.
FOW2019 will look at the global opportunity, how developers, supply chain and economies can maximise the opportunity, and where this exciting sector is heading next.
There is a new leasing round for offshore wind projects getting underway in Scotland generating significant opportunity for new deep water projects to be brought forward between now and 2030. It should be noted that only two of the identified zones have water depths suitable for traditional bottom fixed foundations. Therefore, the Scottish Government is setting its future aspirations for offshore wind and the related supply chain firmly with floating projects.
Crown Estate Scotland has released some of the detail of ScotWind , the new leasing round for offshore wind projects in Scottish waters, allowing developers to begin preparing project proposals. This represents significant opportunity for Norwegian industry – there is a rapidly expanding opportunity for floating offshore wind in Scotland – through Hywind and the general deep water offshore experience from oil and gas and the maritime sector. There are obvious synergies there.
The key undertaking, at this stage, will be to begin to explore where opportunities for partnerships exist between Norwegian companies that would allow for manufacture and fabrication of Norwegian technologies within Scottish facilities. And to understand where Scottish fabrication opportunities do not exist, and therefore there will be no local competition for Norwegian built components.
NORWEP is planning a delegation visit with targeted meetings with key stakeholders, with B2B meetings taking place during the 30th and the 31st October. Those may include meetings with Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Scottish Development International promoting business cooperation between Scotland and Norway. Meetings with key developers and EPCI companies will also be included in our B2B schedule. We are also considering a Norwegian reception the evening prior to the Conference.
