Background

Carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) is widely recognised as being critical to reaching the global goal of net zero emissions by 2050, by organisations such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and International Energy Agency.

The market for CCUS is projected to grow substantially, driven by the urgent need to develop large-scale commercial CCUS projects and hubs to meet climate change mitigation targets. This is evidenced by increasing global financial backing from private investors, as well as greater government policy support for CCUS.

Australia-Norway CCUS Update 2025

The Australia Norway CCUS Update 2025 – co-hosted by Australian Energy Producers, the Norwegian Embassy of Australia and Norwegian Energy Partners (NORWEP) – aims to draw together CCUS project developers, CCUS technology providers, government, and stakeholders from Australia and Norway to provide an update on CCUS project and technological developments and share lessons learned on advancing this priority technology.

Proposed sessions will include:

  • The role of CCUS in reaching net zero, globally and in Australia
  • An update on the world’s largest CCUS projects – Northern Lights, Gorgon, Moomba
  • Lessons learned on the development of large scale CCUS projects in Australia and Norway
  • Engaging hard-to-abate industry in the roll out of cost-effective and environmentally sustainable CCUS technology solutions
  • Collaborating to scale up CCUS hubs globally
