The offshore wind industry for substations is continuing to grow substantially, with 307 HVAC offshore substations and 58 HVDC substations planned globally between 2024 and 2035, according to Rystad Energy. The demand for HVDC systems is particularly robust, with over 92 GW of transmission capacity announced worldwide.
Norway has emerged as a global leader in the HVDC space, with Tier 1 companies holding an estimated 20% share of the global market. This dominance has bolstered the Norwegian supply chain, which continues to evolve and develop. NORWEP estimates that 35-40 Norwegian partners have contributed to HVDC topsides deliveries for over a decade, positioning Norway as one of the premier supplier for topsides of the substations.
