DNV GL can assist in developing an ice management procedure for temporary or permanent operations for facilities that operate in areas where there is a risk of interaction between the facility and sea ice and/or glacial ice. Ice management is performed either i) to avoid interaction between an installation and ice (sea ice and/or glacial ice), or ii) to reduce the global and local ice loads. Most commonly it is used to support floating installations.
“Any ice management approach that is intended to support the operation of an offshore system shall be configured to achieve an acceptable level of overall system reliability“ (ISO 19906, 2010). DNV GL has experience both with ice management in design and in making an ice management procedure for customers operating in the Barents Sea.
