A current challenge to increase the cost efficiency of the offshore wind industry is to optimize the electrical system including offshore substations. ABB is pushing the boundaries in the subsea electrical space and delivers design and integration of subsea electrical equipment, paving the way for subsea substations (as seen in Scotwind bid) and a more optimized inter-array cable layout. Proven subsea technology from the oil and gas sector, adapted to fit for floating wind. ABB`s first subsea transformer delivered in 1998, 36 units delivered pr. April 2022, 7 units in pipeline for delivery in 2025 and 2026 – No failures reported to date
